What the Lighthouse SEO score covers

Google's Lighthouse SEO audit checks the technical fundamentals every page needs to be discoverable, crawlable, and indexable:

• <title> tag present and not empty
• <meta name="description"> present
• Page is crawlable — not blocked by robots.txt or noindex
• Hreflang and canonical tags valid where present
• <a> links have descriptive text (no "click here" or empty links)
• Mobile-friendly — viewport meta tag set, tap targets large enough
• Document has a valid lang attribute
• Structured data is valid (where present)
• Image alt text present on all <img> tags

What it doesn't cover

A 100/100 Lighthouse SEO score does NOT mean you're going to rank. It only measures the technical groundwork. Things Lighthouse does not check:

• Content quality, depth, or originality
• Keyword targeting and search intent match
• Backlinks or domain authority
• Whether your page actually deserves to rank for its target query
• Site architecture and internal linking strategy

Think of Lighthouse SEO as the floor, not the ceiling. You need to pass it, but passing it alone isn't enough.

How to interpret your score

Quick wins to boost your SEO score

1. Add a unique <title> to every page — 50-60 characters
2. Add a <meta name="description"> — 140-160 characters, written for click-throughs
3. Set a viewport meta tag so mobile users can read your site
4. Add alt text to every meaningful image
5. Make sure your robots.txt isn't blocking pages you want indexed
6. Add a canonical tag to every page to prevent duplicate content issues
7. Use descriptive link text ("Read our pricing guide" beats "Click here")
